Franco Méndez Calvillo

After a long period of working with themes such as violence, migration, etcetera, I have decided to focus on an oasis in my work, in order to speak to other aspects of life. ARBÓREA, for me, goes far beyond a purely ecological message, beyond a consciousness of our planet and the destruction of nature. I have adopted the á r b o l —tree— element as a motive/pretext to tell various stories which make the experience of life pleasant.
ARBÓREA emerges from a series of collages which have been printed on Spanish cotton paper —GUARRO— using vegetable inks. –Calvillo

Formerly a medical doctor, Calvillo’s artwork has traveled in exhibitions to Tokyo, Romania and Cuba as well as different regions in Mexico and California including Guerra Florida/ Passport Clandestine, Mexican Cultural Institute, Los Angeles, to name a few.
