Dino Mehaffie was raised in the Chicago area. He received a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago at the age of fourteen, but moved with his family to Los Angeles soon after.
After many years of working as a landscape designer and building contractor, he resumed his formal art training at the Art Institute of Southern California, Laguna Beach. Mehaffie has since worked professionally as a painter and sculptor.
