Leah Younker was born in California and received her B.A and M.F.A from San Diego State University. Younker attended the Skowhegan School of Painting on an SDSU scholarship and is active in the San Diego arts community. Younker has been teaching at Mesa College and had taught at Cuyamaca College, Palomar College, and SDSU. In addition, she is a founding member of the San Diego Chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art and a member and local leader of artist Betsy Damon’s “No Limits for Women in the Arts.”
Younker had exhibited paintings, drawings, and installations with subjects ranging from childbirth, motherhood, body image, racial prejudice, the Mafia, gang violence, and family life. Younker’s current work focuses on city life, especially that of El Cajon Boulevard, where she had lived for thirty years.
