Richard Salcido, born 1976 in San Diego CA, paints powerful portraits.
“I try to explore the themes of fear, insecurity, growth, acceptance and honesty in my work. I mostly paint portraits of single moms, business owners, artists, store clerks and other women holding their own. I’m usually not trying to paint a straight portrait, but more a piece about power and confidence. Everyone, some more than others, go through life with some scratches and scrapes, but it’s the ones on the inside that really leave marks. No matter how deep these scratches and scrapes can feel, we put on our best face and move forward.”
