It is also an exploration into control. I was interested in exploring the the nature of layering in encaustic using a smooth flat surface as the base (or background pattern) in contrast to the surface which I used a process called accretion to create a ruff and textured face. Wax has such a malleable nature and I really wanted to see how I could push the limits between smooth and rough.
