I was already so captivated by the Westfjords in Iceland. As I drove around each peninsula, in and out of the finger-like bodies of water that they created, I was surrounded by giant mountains where the earth rose up abruptly from the sea. Capturing these types of scenes from the ground is what I would consider my specialty as a landscape photographer. However, I also wanted to get a bird’s eye view of the area and a different perspective, so I took my new drone up and into the sky above me. As I circled around this amazing area with the mountains in the distance and the pier below reaching out into the sea, I found exactly what I was looking for. The sandy beach and beautiful water created patterns that were so beautiful and unique. I captured several scenes from the sky that day but my favorite was where the pier, sea and beach all created this amazing, almost abstract, vision from above. As a photographer, I always want to capture unique scenes. Thanks to the serene weather and even light that Mother Nature blessed me with that morning, I was fortunate to be able to capture this incredible scene from ‘Above the Pier’.
