Description

This piece (in fact this series of work) is an exploration into color and pushing the malleable nature of wax. It is also an exploration into control. I was interested in exploring the the nature of layering in encaustic using a smooth flat surface as the base (or background pattern) in contrast to the surface which I used a process called accretion to create a ruff and textured face. Wax has such a malleable nature and I really wanted to see how I could push the limits between smooth and rough. Using my heat gun or a torch like a brush I wanted to exploit this malleable nature to smooth out portions of the surface letting the wax melt and flow together without damaging or harming layers under my surface texture.
