Bird Rock, California

“Barnes was on his way to shoot one of his signature style, low perspective sunset shots at low tide.  On the way out, he saw the green growth spilling over the cliff’ edge and thought that this would be an interesting, unique perspective to watch the sunset.  ‘Around the Bend’ seems to pull the viewer around the corner of the cliff to watch the setting sun in the distance.  The clouds form a perfect balance from the other side, pulling the viewer even further into the sun’s last light beams shining through.  The green growth seen in this image comes from ‘Ice Plants.’  They are named not because they grow in a cold environment, but because the morning dew seems to make the leaves look like they sparkle and glisten like ice crystals.” – Barnes
