Description
“This is a coking plant, part of an abandoned coal mine in Essen, Germany. It’s a UNESCO world heritage site. My brother, who is a landscape architect, is fascinated by these industrial structures that are transformed into public parks. He and I like to compete with our photography and we have a rule that when one of us takes a photograph, the other is not allowed to do the same thing (it’s like stealing a composition). However, this view was the most spectacular of the whole area and we took an exception to that rule. This is probably my personal favorite of all my industrial images.” –Kerckhoffs
