Description

“This piece centers around a humpback whale, who I often imagine as the Mother of Earth’s collective memories. She carries the weight of the world with graceful sacrificial love, turning the darkest of anxieties into love. Honeybees are a powerful historical symbol for the Divine Feminine, and here they serve the Mother whale in healing. In my work I have developed a specific visual symbolic language in which barnacles represent my personal battles with anxiety as they tend to grow and multiply in cold, dark places. The broken barn is also a continued symbol across my work that shows up whenever I am illustrating my memory of a friend’s death. I have learned that by facing my pains and fears through loving acceptance of them, I am able to see them as teachers guiding me away from anxiety and into intuition. We find higher purpose this way, allowing for a greater vision to guide us into the unknown both literally and symbolically.” – Quinn
