“In 2011, during the days of my scientific career, I was invited to speak at a conference and give a seminar in South Africa.  Between the conference in Pretoria and the seminar at the University of Cape Town, I went on a safari by myself in Pilanesberg National Park, when I captured this giraffe, among many other animals that day. My colleagues at the university mentioned that there was a chance I would not see any animals, but I was very lucky to encounter many of them.  Afterwards, the decision to go on a safari in a Toyota Corolla seemed a little crazy, especially after ending up in a herd of elephants.” – Kerckhoffs
