Description

A consideration of the importance and beauty of both the micro and macro.

The imagery in this intaglio is an homage to natural systems, both those we can see as well as those we cannot. At its center, inside the flower, is a Golgi apparatus, the organelle that produces proteins and then secretes them into the cell for delivery elsewhere in the organism. There are also other stages of protein development, in the primary, secondary and tertiary structure forms. The bat and the petals are providing a sheltering haven for the Golgi body, protecting it from any outside influence that might disrupt its good work. An engine for creation is busy building small machines, in the midst of a supportive environment.
