The Goldfinch was inspired by the movie of the same name. Researching actual artist Carel Fabritius I found that he painted his Goldfinch in 1654 and was a contemporary of Rembrandt and Vermeer. Tragically, he was killed in a Delft Gunpowder Depot explosion. This and a few other paintings survived that fateful day. – Duke Windsor
