Where Do We Belong?
Where Do We Belong?
Dimensions: 17 x 8 x 8 ″
Edition: Not part of an edition
Medium: Ceramic|mosaic
We all come from somewhere else. This sculpture portrays four heads topped by a small hut, and mounted on a mosaic cube. It references immigration, refugees, homelessness and explores the house as shelter.
“When we are lost in darkness and see a distant glimmer of light, who does not dream of a thatched cottage or of a hermit’s hut? . . . He has only to listen to the stove roaring in the evening stillness, while an icy wind blows against the house, to know that at the house’s center, in the circle of light shed by the lamp, he is living in the primitive hut of prehistoric man”. Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space
