LA-based Michael Shaw hosts one-on-one and roundtable discussions with contemporary artists, dealers, curators, and collectors from across the country and globe. Shaw launched his pod in 2011 which has since been picked up and can also be heard live on artist-run AM station 1630 in Los Angeles.

When local son and University of San Diego grad Louis Vargas moved to San Francisco to pursue his masters in museum and exhibition studies, he grew fascinated by the multi-faceted career trajectories of the artists and colleagues he met there. The (art)Scene Podcast was launched to tell those stories. Back after a brief hiatus, his latest pod features San Francisco artist Marcela Pardo Ariza.

 

 

 

 

Danny Stern’s Art Dealer Show

Host Danny Stern describes his podcast as the “bar around the corner from the gallery” where dealers retreat to share the straight sauce on the business of art. Sparks Gallery friend and dealer Alexander Salazar recently joined Stern for a two chapter conversation in July and September.

Q&A with Artists from “Edge of the Ocean”

“Edge of the Ocean” at Sparks Gallery features artwork from 36 Southern California artists exploring their relationship with the San Diego coastline: capturing the feeling of the sand, water, wind, animal life and plant life, as well as the natural beauty of the shape & form of the edge of the ocean.

We asked each artist: “What captivates you most about the ocean? Is there a specific memory, mood, or experience of the ocean you want to convey through your work? How has living in the coastal community of Southern California influenced your artistic practice?”
